          Monica Puig, a Puerto Rican tennis player, began her professional career in 2007 at the Prince Cup, where she failed to qualify.

          Despite this setback, she started 2008 with a promising run to the finals of the Costa Rica Bowl, where she was defeated by Eugenie Bouchard. Puig's success continued, winning two out of three subsequent tournaments. She exhibited impressive results in Grade 3 and Grade 4 competitions, but faced setbacks in her first Grade 1 tournament in Lexington, losing to Lauren Embree.
